Brangus breeders stopped to remember the contribution of a breed 'icon' during Tuesday's judging at Beef Australia.
Triple B Brangus Stud founder and Brangus Australia board member of 23 years, Robert Barlow, passed away on April 9.
He was described by Brangus Australia president Brad Saunders as a stalwart of the breed who had made a huge contribution through his work in the breed society and his own seedstock operation.
It was an emotional moment, particularly with many of the Barlow family in attendance.
Lindsay Barlow, who now runs the Triple B business with his wife Fiona, said it would have meant a lot to his father to be remembered by fellow Brangus breeders and society members.
"Dad spent 23 years on the board, five as president and eight as treasurer and was awarded life membership in 2013," he said.
"We only lost him on April 9 so it's all a bit raw. Mum has made a big effort to be here too."
Lindsay said his father started breeding Brangus cattle in the 1980s, establishing Triple B Brangus at Araluen, Dingo, 1990.
"He was working at Cherokee Brahmans and saw Lionel putting Angus bulls over the cows and was impressed by the progeny," he said.
