THREE breeds with smaller numbers wrapped up the final day of individual breed judging this afternoon, with the Boran, Piedmontese and Wagyu sections officiated by John Mercer of Kandanga.
BORAN
Previously shown at Beef Australia in 1997, the Boran breed returned this year with four animals shown by Ipswich Grammar School representing the rare, endangered breed.
Saltaire Emyrus was the senior and grand champion bull sired by Roseclaren Yao and out of Roseclaren Marjani. He weighed 462 kilograms at 33 months of age, with an eye muscle area of 82 square centimetres and fats of eight millimetres and 4mm.
Owner and Ipswich Grammar School agriculture coordinator Darren Brown said he first came across the breed in 1991 at a field day west of Toowoomba.
"Twenty seven odd years later I came across an ad, this bull for sale, and said 'I have to get this bull'," Mr Brown said. "I didn't know exactly what I was going to do with him, but knew I didn't want to see the breed become extinct."
He said the school had shown at Toowoomba Royal recently, and at four shows; Ipswich, Laidley, Gatton and Rosewood, in 2019.
Junior and grand champion female was High Places Quintessa Tulip, an 18-month-old daughter of Hollow Valley Vulawayo out of the High Places Harmony female. Reserve was High Places Quincee, also by Hollow Valley Bulawayo.
Booralee Roxanne Agave sired by High Places Monash was the calf champion female at seven months of age.
PIEDMONTESE
IT was a family affair in the Piedmontese ring at Beef 2021, with a mother and daughter duo from two separate studs exhibiting three head.
Junior and grand champion bull was presented to Scenic Rim A Colton exhibited by Alyshia Jovanovic, Smokin Gun Brahmans, Milbong.
Judge John Mercer of Kandanga commended the top bull, sired by Scenic Rim Cecilio and out of Shadow Valley Ita, for his correctness and how well he parades.
"He is a clear cut winner in my eyes," Mr Mercer said.
"I admire the way he tracks about the ring, he is more correct in the front end than the reserve bull and he stands balanced.
"He has tremendous carcase and thickness throughout, right down the hindquarter... and exceptional strength of spine and you can see that jump muscle move when he walks which is an indication of yield, meat to bone ratio - what the breed is known for."
At 17 months of age he weighed 512 kilograms with an eye muscle are of 117 square centimetres and fat depths of two millimetres and 1mm.
Smokin Gun stud also exhibited the senior and grand champion female Scenic Rim A Zarla, a 21-month-old daughter of Scenic Rim Zeus out of Scenic Rim A Catarina.
Reserve junior champion bull was Scenic Rim Mighty Mouse exhibited by Ms Jovanovic's mother, Nicole Jovanovic from from Scenic Rim Brahman and Piedmontese, Milbong.
