THE ROSEBAY Bazadaise stud bid farewell to the stud judging competition at Beef Australia this year, after more than 25 years of exhibiting cattle at the premier event in Rockhampton.
Stud principals Lesley and Francis Smith, Burrum River, claimed both grand champion Bazadaise bull and female titles at this year's Beef showcase, an accolade the pair will idolise and reflect upon for years to come.
The Smiths' 22-month-old senior bull called Rosebay Quinn took home the champion Bazadaise bull title and their 18-month-old junior female Rosebay Quaint also attracted the grand champion bragging rights.
Judge Grame Hopf, Murwillumbah, New South Wales, paid tribute to the long-standing Bazadaise exhibitors' genetic success.
Mr Hopf highlighted the cattle's structural soundness, which has "dramatically improved" since Beef 2018.
"These cattle are far more structurally correct, with a better hoof design and have shown more mobility," Mr Hopf said.
"The fertility traits in the cow's navel and vulva areas have improved and the bull's mobility is a lot better.
"I believe that the competition today would sit up with the very best that I've seen across Europe and North America."
Lesley Smith said his age and health attributed to the family's decision to step back from showing at future Beef displays.
"I'm extremely proud of our achievements," Mr Smith said.
"We've had success over the years with the Bazadaise breed."
