Baralaba's Allan and Leonie Trail celebrated 40 years of their Elmo Red Brahman stud in style at Beef 2021 with the announcement a future sire had sold for $80,000 in a private negotiation.
The 27-month-old Elmo Samurai was secured by Beth and Remy Streeter of Palmvale Red Brahmans, Marlborough, after Ms Streeter judged the bull at Marlborough show a few weeks ago.
It continued a tradition of Beef Australia bull sales for the Trail family who purchased Samurai's sire, Walton Downs Barnaby, privately from the event in 2015.
He was out of Elmo Duchess Mojada.
"He is a three quarter brother to Elmo Picasso that Rockley stud are displaying here this year and we sold Picasso here in 2018 for $40,000," Mr Trail said.
"We have retained a full brother to Elmo Picasso so we obviously can't keep them all. We just said, we will let him go, and we are just happy about the home he is going to."
Purchaser Beth Streeter placed the bull reserve senior champion at Marlborough show, behind the eventual supreme exhibit, and got in touch with the Trails at the conclusion of the competition.
The deal was finalised last weekend and announced on the first day of Beef Australia.
Having dabbled in grey Brahmans, she said she would eventually join the sire to those females but in the immediate future he would be put with females next week.
"He is completely red bred and polly and he has got different bloodlines to what I have but I've been watching Allan and Leonie the last couple of years...their bulls get better and better," she said.
"I love his temperament and I like the fact that are Allan and Leonie's cattle are really fertile, great udders and low birth weights."
Mr Trail said they always intend on selling bulls at the triennial event.
"I think when we always come to Beef...if we are in a position to purchase a bull we certainly will because usually it's the best of the best here."
