TOP quality cattle and high prices underpinned the hugely-successful Commercial Cattle Championships at Beef 2021.
Sponsored by Nutrien Livestock, the popular event at CQLX Gracemere attracted 1568 head across the grain-fed and grass-fed categories.
Top honours went to the Quinn family, Essex Grazing Co, Middlemount, which claimed the grand champion broad ribbon with a pen of 10, 696.5kg Charbray steers. Those 10 steers later sold for $2889/head to Teys Australia, to be processed at Lakes Creek.
Needmor Cattle Co, Gogango, exhibited the champion pen of lot-fed heifers, as well as the champion pen of crop or pasture-fed steers for their Droughtmaster-cross entries. Those heifers went to JBS Dinmore for $2266/head.
Stewart and Tom Nobbs, Yandaburra Cattle Co, Springsure, won the champion pen of crop or pasture-fed heifers with Brangus heifers weighing an average of 581kg. Coles Supermarkets paid $2579/head for the draft of 10.
Championship judges were Geoff Teys, Teys Australia, and Robert Barnard, JBS.
