Last weekend, the Darling Downs Women's XV a-side players selected for the Southern Queensland Country team ventured to West Barlow Park, Cairns, in matches against NQ women's XVs. The Southern Capital Qld were victorious in both games, and we announce that five Darling Downs ladies have been selected in the 2021 Queensland Country Heelers. Congratulations! The front-runner in our Charlotte Caslick medal, Briana Dascombe, was selected alongside Lily Black, Meagan Connelly, Paige Carpenter and Danielle Plummer. Thank you to Rick Lingard, Southern QCRU team manager.
Last Saturday, the Wagners Risdon Cup rolled onto Round 4, and at Riddles Oval, Goondiwindi Emus stalwart Geoffrey Suhr ran out for his 200th senior game. Goondiwindi Emus A grade side continued their triumphant return to senior rugby and are still unbeaten after a 35-15 victory over Toowoomba Rangers. Full credit must be given to Toowoomba Rangers, as in the past two matches at Riddles Oval opponents have conceded 147 unanswered points. Emu's fly-half William Gilbert collected three more points towards this year's Mal Eiby Medal.
At the Fish Tank, the Condamine Cods held on for a 9-6 victory over the impressive Gatton Black Pigs. Condamine sealed the deal right on full time with a penalty goal. This victory gives the Cods much-needed momentum for the 2021 season. Cods' veteran Sonny Power, collected three points towards the 2021 Mal Eiby Medal, with the victory.
At John Ritter Oval, the Dalby Wheatmen capitalised on a weak USQ side, riddled with injuries, with Dalby thumping USQ 86-0. Credit must be given to USQ Saints with an excellent front row effort.
At the Ants Nest, Roma Echidnas hosted the Toowoomba Bears in a spiteful clash. Bears went into the half time break, leading 22-7. Roma dominated possession in the second half and was able to take the lead late in the game, with an intercept try under the posts. The full-time score was 28-22. Roma number eight Dan Colthurst collected another three points for the Mal Eiby Medal.
The Mal Eiby leader board has changed again after four rounds of the Wagners Risdon Cup. In first place: Daniel Coulhurst (Roma), second: Elias Power (Cods) and in equal third place: Callum Skinner (Emus) and Hahns Spierling (Black Pigs).
