Balonne Shire Council is offering for sale the temporary transfer of 2100 megalitres of excess CAP from the St George Water Supply Scheme.
The St George Scheme draws its water from Jack Taylor Weir and Beardmore Dam, and provides irrigation, urban and industrial water supply to users in St George.
Both Jack Taylor Weir and Beardmore Dam are currently sitting at over 100 per cent storage following recent rain into the Balonne system.
CAP is an administrative annual limitation that council purchases from the state government water body, Sunwater.
Mayor Samantha O'Toole said selling the CAP will help redirect funds back into the community.
"It is an opportunity to recover funds for use on behalf of ratepayers in other water-related expenditure," Cr O'Toole said.
The scheme's network of channels and drains serves land on the left bank of the Balonne River. They are supplied by the dam, Jack Taylor Weir and two other weirs - Moolabah and Buckinbah - on the Thuraggi Watercourse.
Council had previously put 1100ML of CAP up for sale but the recent rain and inflows allowed this to be increased by 1000ML to 2100ML.
Applications close at 2pm this Friday, March 26.
Anyone interested in purchasing some of the CAP is advised to contact the Balonne Shire Council.
