Combined agents Elders and Gillland Livestock Marketing held the second Scenic Rim store sale at the Beaudesert Showgrounds Prime Beef Yards, with a great line-up of quality cattle.
A large panel of both local and travelled buyers were in attendance which saw the market firm for all lines. Cattle were drawn from the local area and the Lockyer Valley.
A highlight of the sale was a pen of Brackle cows and calves account Kerry Smethurst which sold to a top of $3050.
Heavy feeder steers were in short supply. Two pens of milk and two-tooth Droughtmaster steers account Ozzie Cattle Co, Wooloomin, sold for $1750. Trade weight feeder steers account Ashlee Mathews, Upper Alan Creek sold to a top of $1650 and a great line of vendor bred Droughtmaster steers account Exportech, Kerry, made $1590.
Mike Bauer, Hoya, presented a pen of vendor bred Droughtmaster steers 15 months old that sold for $1540. Gina Drew, Mt Mee, sold lines Brangus and Speckled Park steers 15 months, topping at $1570. Coates Farming, Maroon, sold a pen of Charolais cross steers 12 months for $1520.
With some decent falls of rain through the local area, weaner and backgrounder steers were again in high demand. Yearling steers account GS and JM Cahill, Christmas Creek, sold to a top of $1470. John and Glenda Coates, Gatton, also had a good line of yearling Limousin cross steers showing strong demand from buyers making $1450.
Weaner steers straight off the cows again sold to a strong demand with Valley View Country selling Droughtmaster weaners making $1330 and Limousin cross weaner steers account Allenview Park making $1320. Erawan Pastoral, Maroon, sold a pen of vendor bred Brahman steers 12 months old for $1190.
MCV Holdings, Willowvale, sold lines of Santa cross weaner steers also topping at $1190. Matthew Bruce, Tamborine, presented three pens of light weight Brahman cross steer calves to top at $1090 and average $1085.
A quality line-up of females also came to hand with both grown heifers and weaner heifers selling firm on current market trends.
Errol Craig, Laravale, sold a pen of Charolais heifers for $1630. Munvale Cattle sold a pen of Brahman heifers 15 months for $1600. Coates Farming also sold Charolais heifers 15 months for $1550. Brangus yearling heifers account Keeley Investments made $1400.
Munvale Cattle Co also presented two pens of Droughtmaster heifers 10 months old with the lead pen topping at $1150. Freshly weaned Brahman cross heifer calves account Matthew Bruce, Tamborine, sold for $1080.
Cows and calves were in strong demand with most of the units selling to local buyers. All Beef Enterprises, Cannon Creek, sold Droughmaster cross cows and calves for $2000. MCV Holdings, Willowvale, presented a pen of aged Red Angus cows and calves that sold for $2020. Matthew Bruce, Tamborine, sold a pen of Droughtmaster cross number 9 heifers and calves that sold for $1880.
The next Scenic Rim store sale will be held on Thursday April 15.
