Young beef enthusiasts have the chance to head to Beef Australia 2021 on Droughtmaster Australia's dime, with the society announcing two bursaries are available for the event.
Funded through the society's Research and Education Foundation, two lucky young people who are involved in the beef industry and have ties to the Droughtmaster breed will each receive a bursary valued up to $3000.
The funding will cover the cost of travel to and from Rockhampton, a five-day admission pass to Beef Australia, tickets to attend at least two Beef 2021 seminars and $500 discretionary funds to be used on Beef 2021 related activities.
During the Beef 2021 experience, each successful applicant will be billeted with a Droughtmaster stud member family who will be exhibiting stud cattle at the event.
The family will be camping on-site and accommodation and meals, all of which will be provided to the successful applicant during the Beef 2021 experience, will be 'camp style'.
The stud member families involved are experienced cattle producers and long-term members of the Droughtmaster Society; hold a current blue card; and have members of their team/family that are under 25 years of age.
Droughtmaster Australia chief executive officer Simon Gleeson said the bursaries are about supporting the next generation of meat producers.
"Innovation was the genesis of the Droughtmaster breed, which has long been praised as a pioneer for forward thinking in the state," he said.
"That torch of innovation is something Droughtmaster Australia wants to see passed on.
"The aim of the bursaries is to increase the next generation's knowledge of the beef cattle and associated industries, and provide the recipients the best industry-relevant skills for their development."
To be considered for the bursaries, applicants must be under the age of 25 and express why they would benefit from attending the event.
Applicants are required to have an association with the Droughtmaster breed, such as;
- Relatives who are members of the Droughtmaster Stud Breeders' Society and involvement with their operation;
- Works with Droughtmaster stud or commercial cattle on either a paid or voluntary basis;
- Enrolled in agricultural studies at a school or university that has, or has had, Droughtmaster cattle in the school or university program.
