A genetically rich, 71 lot draft has been selected for the seventh annual Rocky All Stars Elite Brahman Female Sale taking place at CQLX, Gracemere, from 11am on Saturday, March 20.
The 2021 catalogue comprises 46 greys, 25 reds, and two embryo packages, which are being offered by nine returning vendors, along with first-time sale vendors Peter and Sue Hammer, Annavale Brahmans, Charters Towers and David and Pearl Christensen, Berida Red Stud, Gin Gin.
Elders sale agent Michael Smith said the 2021 offering is of its typically high standard.
"The vendors have placed heavy selection emphasis on general quality backed by proven and strong genetics," Mr Smith said.
"Buyers expect quality females at the sale and their confidence has always been well rewarded, with vendors digging a little deeper to ensure their best females are offered," he said.
"Buyers come from as far as northern New South Wales, and all across Queensland to inspect and bid on the females offered."
Mr Smith said rainfall has been patchy but some areas have had a reasonable break.
"Even with the inconsistent falls, the stud cattle and commercial markets have been strong and the improved prices are flowing through to the grass roots of the industry."
A parade of quality heifers were offered at last year's sale, with a frenzy of bids pushing the sale to a high of $23,000 early on with Gavin Scott, Rosetta Grazing, Collinsville, purchasing the then 12-month-old red heifer, Halgenaes Egret (IVF) (PS), from Peter Tuxworth, Halgenaes Brahmans, Allingham, for the top money.
A total of 88 females were offered by 13 vendors, achieving a clearance rate of 93 per cent, and combined sale average of $5555. A breakdown of the catalogue saw 35 red heifers sold to average $5157, while the grey section of the draft saw 43 heifers sell to average $5851.
Mr Smith said he was very pleased with the 2020 result.
"We've focused heavily on improving quality and trying to put forward better females each year, and these efforts are now paying dividends."
Regular Covid-19 protocols will need to be adhered to on sale day, with Mr Smith stating sign-in is required at the saleyards, while social distancing safeguards will be followed.
"If you're unwell please stay at home and bid online through the Stocklive platform."
