Ekka changes beef competition days from Thurs-Fri to Fri-Sat.

The Ekka's stud beef competition will this year be held on a Friday and Saturday, instead of its regular Thursday and Friday event slot.

The move comes in response to the many logistical issues that COVID-19 has presented, and will see the small breed event held on Friday 13 August, and the stud beef competition spanning across Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7.

With more than 1100 head of stud beef cattle expected to descend on the Royal Queensland Show, showing off some of the best beef genetics in the world, the RNA is encouraging event-goers to take advantage of the day change.

"Stud beef competition judging is always a crowd highlight," a spokesperson said.

"Other much-loved Ekka competitions to see on Saturday include canine, cats, woodchop and sawing, and the Young Farmers Challenge."

Like all major events, the Ekka was forced to respond to COVID-19 - holding it's 2020 show online.

A RNA spokesperson said this year's show was expected to go ahead with a little more normalcy but the Ekka still needs to respond to the challenges the pandemic has presented.

"As a not for profit, and like many businesses whose revenues have been impacted by COVID-19, the RNA is prudently planning so we can stage a wonderful show in 2021 while delivering better efficiencies to our fixed costs across grounds," they said.

"The 2021 Ekka will run for nine days instead of 10, maintaining two full weekends and the Ekka public holiday, saving the RNA significant operational costs."

The RNA will conduct a full review of the 2021 show in September, as it does with each Ekka, to decide if the day change is permanent.
