The number of stock penned at Dalby on Wednesday remained close to the previous week's level at 5288 head.
A full panel of export processors was present and operating, plus the usual feed and trade buyers, along with local and interstate restockers. Once again this week Victorian and NSW restockers were very active on the young light weight cattle.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 2c/kg better. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed were well supplied and sold to a very solid market. Light weight yearling heifers to processors or restockers improved in price by 10c to 14c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed experienced only quality related price changes.
Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export processors remained unchanged in price. However cows sold to a mixed trend, with plain condition cows returning to the paddock improving in price, while cows to export processors averaged 7c to 15c/kg less.
Yearling steers under 200kg made to 636.2c to average 526c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg made to 588c, with a large selection averaging 488c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 436c to 460c with the occasional sale to 476c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 431c and sold to 444c/kg in pen lots.
Yearling heifers under 200kg made to 628.2c with a fair sample averaging 515c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to processors averaged 430c, while restocker classes made to 542c to average 472c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 419c to 430c, with sales to 448c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 410c and made to 430c/kg.
Heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 389c and made to 393c/kg. The bullock portion averaged 382c and made to 395.2c, with some over 750kg reaching 388.2c/kg.
Medium weight plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 314c with a large sample averaging 301c/kg. Medium weight 3 scores to processors averaged 290c and made to 297c/kg. Good heavy weight cows averaged 308c with the occasional pen reaching 329.2c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 359c/kg.
