The positive seasonal conditions in western Queensland saw a strong sale result for the Lethbridge family of Warren Point Poll Herefords on Friday.
Offering 50 sire prospects that the family said were a true testament of over eight decades of continuous breeding of Poll Herefords at Warren Point, all lots were cleared to represent a 100 per cent clearance rate and an average of $5370.
It was the second bull into the ring that attracted the top money of $16,500.
Knocked down to the Wason family, Orange Grove, Roma, the 25-month-old Warren Point Future P175 (HPR) (AI) (P) boasted estimated breeding values of 41, 58 and 87 for 200-, 400- and 600-day growth, respectively.
Sired by Sevenbardot Future E196 (P) and from Warren Point Fancy L144 (HPR) (P), the top seller also boasted gestation length of -2.7 and a southern baldy maternal index value of $128.
A second-top price of $12,000 was achieved for one of the last lots through the ring, in Warren Point Peregon Q034 (P), purchased by JJ7 Partnership, Havelock, Mitchell.
Sired by Kenevel FJ L358 (P) and from Warren Point Pearl K187 (P), the 19-month-old also showed strong growth ability, with 200-, 400- and 600-day growth figures of 30, 47, and 68, respectively.
The top volume buyers were the Ogilvy family of Lindon Station, Tibooburra, NSW, who took home 11 new sire prospects for a $4000 average, while Peter Jukes, Quartpot, Quilpie, bought 10 for a $5100 average.
Warrick and Kell Freeman, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla, ended up with seven for a $6643 average.
TopX selling agent Cyril Close said the strong result was supported by the traditional buying panel from the Channel Country and western Queensland who hadn't been present for several years.
"We had three of those players back in the market this year, buying numbers of eight to 10 bulls, so with those plus the local competition, we saw the 100pc clearance of a really good quality line of young bulls."
