Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 1089 head at this week's prime and special store sale.
Numbers increased by 614 head on the previous week. Two local processors were present along with three traders and a large gallery of local buyers. Prices were strong for good quality cattle with new saleyards records set.
There was strong demand from restockers for cattle under 200kg regardless of breed. The yarding consisted of 226 steers averaging 325.4c/kg and selling to a top of 396.2c, including the new saleyards record for meatworks ox of 374.2c.
The 345 bulls averaged 273.2c, selling to a top of 400.2c, including a new saleyards record for meatworks bulls at 342.2c. One bull returned to the paddock for 354.2c.
There were 197 cows which averaged 206.2c and sold to a top of 300.2c; 145 heifers averaged 271.2c, selling to a top of 346.2c.
The 82 yearling heifers averaged 359.3c and sold to a top of 398.2c, a new saleyards record, and 94 yearling steers averaged 377.1c, selling to a top of 478.2c, also a new saleyards record.
