Queensland Ag Shows volunteers who demonstrate consistent commitment to innovation and excellence are set to be recognised when the Queensland Shows Awards (QSAs) return in 2021.
An initiative of the Queensland Ag Shows Next Generation Committee, the QSAs serve to acknowledge the contribution of not just show societies and their events, but also the grassroots people whose tireless efforts embody the values of the agricultural show movement.
Due to the cancellation of most of the Queensland show season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, nominations for the 2021 awards will be accepted from both 2019 and 2020.
Winners will be announced at the Queensland Ag Shows Gala Dinner on Saturday 20 March 2021 in Roma, in conjunction with the 2021 Qld Ag Shows Annual General Meeting.
Awards categories include:
- Outstanding individual contribution
- Emerging leader
- Best innovation in a local event.
Next Generation president, Kaitlyn Murphy said the awards, which are sponsored by Sandstream Etching, encouraged teams and individuals to innovate and maintain their commitment to achieving excellence.
"With more than 580 agricultural shows held across Australia each year, the movement boasts the largest volunteer base in the country and a combined annual economic value in excess of $965 million," she said.
"The awards are a superb opportunity for the Queensland show movement to come together and celebrate the hard work and creativity of our peers.
"With most shows cancelled this year, we want to encourage show societies to either think back to 2019 to nominate a special person or innovation, or tell us about how your team overcame a challenging 2020 and found a way to put on an event for your community.
"For some shows that took the shape of a mini show, online competitions or entertainment streamed online. We want to celebrate surviving a difficult 12 months and share ideas that we'll take with us into the future."
