The action starts this Saturday, October 3, with a spectacular day of rugby at Clive Berghofer Stadium/Toowoomba Sports Ground. Throughout the day there will be six grand finals. Downs Rugby would like to thank the five clubs for qualifying for their respective grand finals. For all 18 affiliated clubs and schools this year has been like no other. It has taken a tremendous amount of volunteer effort to get where we are now. Working with the Darling Downs Public Health Unit and the new directive from Queensland Health, the 2020 Downs Rugby grand final day can now accommodate 2500 spectators at the Toowoomba Sports Ground. Over 1200 tickets have already been sold and they must be pre-purchased online at TryBooking.com or simply go to downsrugby.com.au and click on the link at the top of the home page. Tickets for adults are $13 and children under 16 are free. Gates open from 10:30am. This is non smoking/non-e-cigarette venue.

Teenage Girls 7s grand finals will kick off the day with under 13, 15 and 17 grand finals featuring Toowoomba Bears, USQ Saints and Chinchilla River Rats in their respective grades.

From 12:50pm the Nutrien Ag B Grade Bill Flamsteed Cup premiership will be decided. It is reigning premiers, St George Frillnecks are up against the undefeated minor premiers Warwick Water Rats. It is anyone's guess who will hold the cup for B grade at 2:15pm.

At 2:35pm the Black Isuzu Emilee Cherry Cup grand final will feature 2020's best teams from the weekly tournaments. This year for the first time Toowoomba Bears has been unsuccessful in defending their title as three-peat premiers and the fight for the trophy between St George Filly Frillies and the USQ Saints will be an epic. The two teams have been neck and neck in the ladder all year and this will be a game not to miss.

From 3:10pm Downs Rugby will present the annual coveted awards including club champions and the Ken Long Award for services and dedication to Downs Rugby will also be presented to the volunteer of the year, as well as the top points and try scorers' awards for both Black Isuzu Emilee Cherry Cup and Wagners Risdon Cup.

The battle for the Wagners Risdon Cup will begin at 3:30pm with minor premiers Toowoomba Rangers up against cross town rival the Toowoomba City Bears. As this is the first grand final in years to not include a country team, the match will be a nail-biter to see who holds the cup by the end of the night. The referee will judge which player will receive the Vince Bermingham Cup for Best on Field for the A Grade grand final.

After the final game, the prestigious Mal Eiby Medal for the A Grade Best and Fairest for 2020 will be awarded by Mal himself. The race is extremely close, with the possibility of joint medal recipients.
