A striking draft has been selected for 44th annual Australian Brangus Cattle Association (ABCA) sponsored Rockhampton Brangus Sale being held on Monday, October 12 from 1pm and Tuesday, October 13 from 9.30am at the CQLX Saleyards in Gracemere.
Sale committee chair Brad Saunders said 40 studs (including five first-time sale vendors) from across Queensland and down into northern New South Wales will offer 142 registered and herd bulls and 26 registered females at this year's sale.
"The draft is packed with bulls that are consistent and structurally sound," Mr Saunders said.
"For the first time at the sale, all registered bulls have been DNA tested with the Brangus Bundle for coat colour, poll, sire verification and tenderness," he said.
"And for the first time in many years a contingent of 29 registered red bulls (see page 73) will be offered with 113 black registered bulls making up the balance."
Prior to the registered females entering the sale ring on day one of the sale, 130 exemplary lots will be offered at the traditional Ray White Brangus Commercial Female Sale being held from 1pm (see page 75).
Mr Saunders said vendors save their best bulls and females for the Rockhampton Brangus Sale.
"The evenness of year's selection is equal to the 2019 sale draft which produced an outstanding result."
Last year registered females averaged $3668 and topped at $13,000, while 115 bulls sold for an average of $10,030, topping at $50,000 twice, and a 94 percent clearance. Total gross receipts were $1,498,943.
"With signs pointing to there being a good season ahead, which we're all hoping for, we'll be able to match or exceed 2019's strong result."
Those unable to attend the sale in person can livestream and bid during the sale proceedings through RLX's Stocklive online selling platform.
The sale committee will ensure all Covid-19 safety protocols are adhered to.
"We just have to play it by ear, and see what the requirements are at the time of the sale taking place."
The sale catalogue can now be viewed on the ABCA website, and hard copy catalogues can be mailed out upon request by contacting the ABCA office.
After selling comes to a close on the first day of the sale, Mr Saunders said all in attendance are welcome to attend the Rabobank Bull Walk, which will include dinner and drinks, and will be followed by the ABCA Youth Foundation auction.
