The demand for genetics from Fairview Black Simmentals far outweighed the number of bulls on offer at Mungallala last Friday.
Tony Horvath and Roslyn Ware's first on-property sale saw all 22 bulls sell for a 100 per cent clearance rate and average of $9386, in what Mr Horvath said was a very pleasing result.
Top money of $15,000 was paid by the Pampling family, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella, to secure Fairview Payload P56 (PP) (AI) (B).
Sired by TNT Tanker U263 (P) (B), the well-balanced sire prospect weighed 785 kilograms with an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres and scrotal measurement of 40cm.
At two-years-old, the bull boasted nine traits ranking in the top 20pc, or better, of the breed, with scan figures of 6.4pc for intramuscular fat, and P8 and rib fat scans of 10mm and 8mm, respectively.
The Pampling family rounded out their draft of bulls with Fairview Principle P144 (PP) (B) for $9500.
A second-top price of $14,000 was paid by Camelock Rural, Carella, Augathella, for Fairview Potent P13 (PP) (B).
A son of Woonallee Legacy L183 (PP) (AI) (B), the two-year-old weighed 805kg, and boasted an EMA of 131sq cm, IMF of 6pc, and scrotal measurement of 42cm.
Of the 27 registered bidders, 12 secured bulls, including top volume buyers Golden Grazing, Potter's Flat, Yuleba, who purchased four bulls for an average of $10,250 and top of $12,500.
Usually selling their bulls through paddock sales, Mr Horvath said having a more bulls to offer and more inquiries this year had prompted them to hold an on-property sale.
"Rather than sell them privately at a fixed price, we thought it was fairer to all our clients to get everybody here on the day and give everyone equal chance of getting the bull they want," he said.
"We've got good genetics, the phenotype was right and we've seen what similar bulls are making at other sales with the Black Simmentals and we knew we had ours under value so we thought we'd get them out to a wider audience and they could decide what they're worth.
"Although we didn't have any expectations being our first sale, any result was going to be a good result, but to get a 100 per cent clearance and a very good average, we're very pleased with that."
Mr Horvath said their breeding program had been gaining momentum over the past few years and the bulls on offer featured some of the very best genetics from leading herds throughout Australia, America and Canada.
"We're always looking for a balanced animal. The Black Simmentals as a breed are big enough, so we like to see that breed average growth, but we are very conscious of the carcase side of it too," he said.
"In the past, we have been bullock fatteners so we're very conscious of fat cover and IMF on our bulls. A lot of our bulls were trait leaders for rib and rump fat and IMF, and a lot of them here are trait leaders for eye muscle area too."
