BULLS topped at $17,000 to average $9578 at the Seifert Belmont Red on-property sale at Wonga, Jandowae, on Thursday.
Exceeding all pre-sale expectations, the very well attended sale hosted by Ian Stark and Jeanne Seifert saw a total clearance of the 58 bulls offered under the Helmsman auction system.
They put the outstanding success of the sale in perspective, values were up $4411 on average compared to last year's inaugural event.
Top price of $17,000 was paid by Brett Hick, Lindfield Cattle Company, Julia Creek. The 20.5-month-old had a 130 square centimetre eye muscle area, 40cm scrotal circumference, 8mm of fat at the rib, 11mm at the rump, and a 5.1 score for intramuscular fat.
Lindfield also bought two polled PH bulls on AuctionsPlus, a curve bending 23.4-month-old with low birth rate figures for $15,500 and the "most profitable bull in the sale" for $14,000.
Second top price of $16,000 was paid by Ashley Kirk, Kirk Grazing, Moura, for the homozygous poll PP bull with a 122sq cm EMA and 46cm scrotal.
Scott and Dana Leeson, Leeson Cattle Company, Maloneys, Moura, paid $15,500 for a PP bull. The above average growth 23.2-month-old had a 127sq cm EMA.
Greg Hutton, Togara, Comet, secured a homozygous poll PP bull for $15,000. He was in the top 5 per cent for birth weight and a catalogue topping 46cm scrotal.
Richard and Monique Bethel, Willungra Grazing Company, Nebo, were also in the market for a PP bull, paying $14,500 for a 23.7-month-old, which was in the top 1pc of EBVs for carcase weight.
Volume buyer was Peter and Julie Naylor and their son Chase, who bought 12 for a $8375 average.
Peter Naylor said he was inspired following a feature story on Seifert Belmont Reds in Queensland Country Life's Movers and Shakers feature.
"My former neighbour also had some very handy Belmont Reds," Peter Naylor said, who previously owned country at Middleton.
The 12 bulls will go into the Naylor's 1500 head Hollins Bay Brahman cow herd.
John Winsome, Sanjac, Chandler, paid $14,000 for a 22.2-month-old PP bull with a 130sq cm EMA.
Lorraine Pastoral Company, Cloncurry, was also active, buying a polled bull for $13,500. The well muscled, long, 21.5-month-old bull was in the top 1pc for carcase weight.
Four heifers sold a top of $4500, to average $3750. John Winson bought all of the females.
Technical officer with Tropical Beef Technology Services, Tim Emery, Roma, said it was noticeable that many of the higher priced bulls appeared to have been selected using EBVs as a guide.
