Cattle numbers from Queensland rose significantly by 4175 head last week to see a total yarding of 8859 head. Southern Queensland dominated the cattle purchasing regions this week, securing 2491 head.
PTIC cows sold from $1410 to $2690 to average $1935, back $117 on the previous week. The top price went to a line of Angus cows offered by Magill Pty Ltd, Texas. These three to five-year-old cows weigh 551kg and are PTIC to Angus bulls.
Heifers 200-280kg sold from 285c to 513c, averaging 389c, back 52c. Bullamon Plains Pastoral, Thallon, sold a line of nine to 11-month-old Angus heifers weighing 237kg with Glenoch and Hazeldean blood for 485c.
Feeder steers 330-400kg sold from 361c to 459c, averaging 407c, firm on last week. A highlight includes a line of steers weighing 387kg from Wandoan, which returned 407c.
Steers over 400kg sold from 335c to 436c, correcting 23c to average 381c. From Cunnamulla, a line of Charolais cross feeder steers aged 14-20 months weighing 407kg sold for 387c.
Cows with calves at foot sold from $1330 to $3280, averaging $2195 correcting $458 after weeks of phenomenal prices. From Longreach, a line of Angus cows with calves at foot aged two to eight years weighing 515kg returned $2480 and will be heading to Gunnedah, NSW.
SHEEP
Queensland sheep numbers increased by 1280 head from the previous week to total 7895.
Merino wether lambs remained firm, averaging $156, selling from $109 to $191. From Eulo, a line of Sep/Oct '19 drop Merino wether lambs weighing 39kg sold for $168 and will be heading to Gollan in central west NSW.
Merino wethers sold from $141 to $180, averaging $150, down $13. A highlight was a line of four to five-year-old Poll Merino wethers from Winton weighing 58kg which sold for $162 and are heading interstate to Cootamundra, NSW.
Young breeders (two to four years) lost $17 to average $265, selling from $161 to $341. Two lines of NSM ewes from Longreach weighing 55kg and 56kg sold for $246 and $240 respectively. Both lines are headed to Forbes, NSW.
There were 6790 store lambs offered last week selling from 396c to 593c, averaging 459c. A highlight included a line of Nov/Dec '19 drop Meatmaster/ Dorper wether lambs from St George, which returned $166.5 or 407c.
