AUSTRALIAN bootmaker Blundstone has launched a tough, new zip-sided boot, offering features not usually seen in standard safety boots.
The #983 is described as providing the ultimate underfoot protection, featuring a lightweight, penetration resistant insole.
The lace up design also provides ankle protection while the heavy-duty zip gives easy on-off convenience.
Global Work and Safety Range manager Adrian Blandford said throughout Blundstone's 150 year history, the company had prided itself meeting its customer's needs.
"In the 1950s we produced boots for Tasmanian Zinc refinery, EZ, with wooden soles to protect against hydrochloric acid," Mr Blandford said.
"Now, in 2020 we've taken that same spirit of innovation to produce the #983 that meets the needs of those who need ultimate underfoot protection."
One of the stand out features of the new #983 is its "crazy horse" water resistant leather upper - a full nubuck leather that is buffed in order to achieve a smooth feel and finish. A wax has been applied to the surface, which provides a multi-tone, rustic finish.
However, it's the non-metallic, penetration resistant insole that puts the #983 above other safety boots.
Traditionally, penetration resistant insoles have been manufactured from steel. In Blundstone's #983 boot, a non-metallic penetration resistant insole crafted using plasma treated high tenacity yarns has been incorporated.
"These insoles are capable of reducing punctures caused by small nails and other objects, and the use of non-metallic material in the insole allows for maximum flexibility and comfort due to its lightweight construction," Mr Blandford said.
"As it can be sewn directly to the upper material, it enables protection to almost 100 per cent of the surface of the sole."
