On the fourth anniversary of the fire that destroyed the Morven Hotel Motel, locals were finally able to glimpse what its replacement will look like.
A month after the foundations were laid, the long verandahs and heritage-flavoured new pub is taking shape.
It's happening thanks to the initiative of eight local families who wanted to bring the community hub back to the south western town.
Spokeswoman Louise Winten said the design, being built on site by Chris Hart of Chinchilla Transportable Homes, was loosely based on a shearing shed design, but also featured big verandahs.
"We feel it gives it a bit of a heritage feel, a bit more character," she said.
Another interesting design element is that its long side doesn't face the highway but instead is positioned facing the east.
After a month of construction work it's now at lock-up stage with electrical work done and plumbing work due shortly.
"There's more internal building to do but we're starting to think about furniture and landscaping," Ms Winten said.
Although coronavirus restrictions might prevent them from opening when that's completed, possibly by the end of June, Ms Winten said that could be a blessing in disguise.
"It means we can get it properly finished rather than rushing to meet the tourist season," she explained.
They're exploring the possibility of a soft opening, serving takeaway meals and alcohol along with other hotels around the nation.
Being able to toast their new venture combined with the lifting of coronavirus restrictions will be extra special, Ms Winten said.
The former hotel was destroyed by fire in the early hours of April 26, 2016, meaning that Anzac Day and the day after now has extra significance for the residents of Morven.
