Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Jack Dempsey looks set to retain his role, attracting 30,389 votes so far with 71 per cent of the preliminary vote counted.
Cr Dempsey is sitting on 64pc, with his closest competitor Helen Blackburn on 32.69pc or 15,514 votes, and Kirt Anthony on 3.28pc or 1559 votes.
This will be Cr Dempsey's second term as mayor.
He previously served as the LNP's Member for Bundaberg and was the police and community safety minister during his time in state parliament.
After taking the lead on Saturday night, Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor George Seymour has established a sizable margin ahead of contender Jannean Dean.
Cr Seymour is sitting on 76.43pc or 19,065 votes, while Ms Dean is on 23.57pc or 5879 votes, with 33.4pc of the vote counted.
In the Gympie region, councillor Glen Hartwig looks set to topple sitting mayor Mick Curran.
Cr Hartwig has increased his lead from when counting began on Saturday night, and has received 11,862 votes or 51.15pc.
Cr Curran is sitting on 33.56pc or 7784 votes, while Tim Jerome is on 15.29pc or 3545 votes, with 64.5pc of the vote counted.
It is a four-horse race in the South Burnett, with Brett Otto leading on 39.4pc or 5384 votes.
He is narrowly ahead of sitting mayor Keith Campbell, who has received 4914 votes or 35.96pc, with 61.33pc of the vote counted.
Abigail Andersson is on 15.8pc or 2159 votes and Toni Ralph is on 8.83pc or 1207 votes.
