Balonne Shire Council residents could be in for a change of mayor based on preliminary votes counted on Saturday night.
First term councillor and mayoral challenger Samantha O'Toole has pulled ahead of sitting mayor Richard Marsh.
With 65.88 per cent of the unofficial preliminary count conducted, Cr O'Toole has attracted 55.5pc while Cr Marsh is on 44.5pc
Cr O'Toole and her husband Jason are raising their family at St George and run aerial agricultural business, Balonne Airwork.
She has also championed the impact water buybacks would have on the community and in 2018 was appointed to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority community committee.
At 8.30pm on Saturday night, the Electoral Commission of Queensland had not published results for the Maranoa Regional Council.
Incumbent mayor Tyson Golder is up against former mayor Rob Loughnan and David Schefe.
