Gympie Regional Council Mayor Mick Curran looks set to be ousted by Glen Hartwig in the race for mayor.
On Saturday night 23.2 per cent of the unofficial preliminary vote had been counted, with Cr Hartwig attracting 47.41pc.
Cr Curran had received 34.78pc, while Tim Jerome was on 17.8pc.
Cr Hartwig is a long-term resident and local business owner who wants to promote business growth in the region.
In Fraser Coast 5.86pc of the preliminary vote has been counted but sitting mayor George Seymour has taken a commanding lead with 71.63pc.
Contender Jannean Dean has received 28.37pc of the vote.
A slim 3.38pc of the count has been conducted in the South Burnett.
Brett Otto is leading with 38.99pc or 285 votes and sitting mayor Keith Campbell is on 31.74pc or 232 votes.
Abigail Andersson is on 19.29pc and Toni Ralph is on 9.99pc.
Further north in the Bundaberg Regional Council election, incumbent mayor Jack Dempsey is up against Helen Blackburn and Kirt Anthony.
It is early days with only .7pc of the vote counted but Cr Dempsey is in the lead.
If elected, this will be Cr Dempsey's second term as mayor.
He previously served as the LNP's Member for Bundaberg and was the police and community safety minister during his time in state parliament.
