THE 2020 Hygain and Mitavite Capricornia Yearlings Sales, set for March 29, have been postponed.
A date is yet to be fixed for the event, according to the Rockhampton Jockey Club's chief executive officer Tony Fenlon.
"It's off for the time-being," Mr Fenlon said.
"When the sale will be re-scheduled is still to be decided but we are making every effort to settle on a date and the sale, when it proceeds, will be an online version."
Jeff Leaver, the president of the Central Queensland Thoroughbred Breeders Association, admitted conversations with Racing Queensland officials would have some bearing on a new sales date.
Mr Leaver said the "ideal" scenario would place the sale as close as possible to the $125,000 Capricornia Yearling Sale Plate (1200m) and $75,000 Capricornia Yearling Championship 3 and 4-Year-Old Handicap (1300m), which are set for decision on April 4 at Callaghan Park in Rockhampton.
"But with so much uncertainty over the progress of meetings it is very hard to make any firm decision at this stage. Everything is changing so quickly," he said.
The sale was to have been staged next Sunday in an open area at the northern end of the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
There have been 91 yearlings listed for sale.
