The Gympie Saleyards are expected to again be catering to a full house abuzz with bidding activity when the 2020 Droughtmaster National Female Sale takes place on Saturday, March 14 from 9am.
This year's sale catalogue is packed from cover to cover with 193 first-rate females possessing a host of highly desirable bloodlines from 35 breed-leading stud vendors situated across the Sunshine State and this year, New South Wales.
The draft for the 39th annual sale will consist of three cows and calves, 32 joined heifers and 158 unjoined heifers.
Sale committee coordinator Brian Heck said through the years the sale has become well known for the quality of the females selected for the catalogue, their affordability and the breadth of genetics offered which allows both small and large scale stud and commercial producers to target females best suited for their requirements.
"Many, like us, started their stud with quality females from this sale, and many of us still have those genetics going forward for us today," Mr Heck said.
"We have a few new vendors coming this year, which again, adds to our sales' genetic strength," he said.
The 2019 sale saw 134 females average $2890 for 89 per cent clearance and total sale gross of $387,200. Six cows and calves averaged $3708, 10 joined heifers averaged $3350 and 118 unjoined maidens averaged $2809.
Post-sale Mr Heck said given the poor season the result had been much better than expected.
"It was a very solid result backed by a good clearance with the most widespread buyer interest to date," he said at the time.
Mr Heck said all sale visitors are invited to carry out their inspections at the saleyards from 3pm on the afternoon of Friday, March 13, and then join together for the traditional barbecue at the saleyards, featuring tender Nolans steaks, from 6.30pm to have a great feed and a relaxed yarn with the sale vendors, prospective buyers and agents.
All animals purchased can be scratched at the yards for ticks to go into the clean country if required, and are vaccinated for at least 5 in 1 or 7 in 1 and Tick Fever (blood), and are Veterinary Certified for pregnancy status.
