For self-confessed meat lovers Dan and Steph Mulheron, a My Kitchen Rules win helped catapult their food careers and now they're back to give it another shot, competing on chef Manu Feildel's team.
The Hervey Bay couple won the cooking series in 2013 and have since opened a restaurant, EAT@ Dan and Steph's and welcomed a daughter, Emmy.
For them, the chance to return to the series was an opportunity they couldn't turn down.
The couple has a passion for the low and slow barbecue style of cooking and also focus on using the best and freshest produce that they can.
"We try and use local produce where we can and we're located in such a great region of the Fraser Coast where we've got Hervey Bay scallops at our hands and there's so many small producers that are in Hervey Bay that many people don't know about and even in Bundaberg, which is only a small drive up the road," Steph said.
On their last stint on the show, Dan's sausage-making skills came to the fore and at their first instant restaurant this series, the couple served up a gourmet chicken sausage in their main that earned a score of 10 from judge Pete Evans.
"This time round we still wanted to showcase how the good old Aussie snag is represented nowadays," Steph said.
Since their last stint on the show, Dan has lost 85kg after gastric band surgery and the couple now eat a high protein diet.
"Red meat is very important to us... we eat a lot of pork as well. We eat high protein, no carbs, lots of green vegetables... just a clean diet really," Steph said.
