With the drought remaining front and center in the minds of many who live in the Toowoomba region, the Clifton Show Society are urging people from the community to come together and enjoy the 109th Clifton Show on Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16.
Clifton Show Society secretary Adele Saville said in times like these the show provides a great opportunity for people to enjoy the social side of the annual event.
"Throughout its history the show has always brought the community together, while showcasing the district and its strong ties to agriculture," Ms Saville said.
"From speaking to people in the community, I have a feeling that a lot of people aren't going anywhere or doing anything because, understandably, their focus is so firmly on maintaining their homes, properties and/or businesses," she said.
"We hope that the show will provide our community members with a chance to relax for a bit while enjoying some time away from home/work with their friends and family."
Ms Saville said while visitors to the show share a relaxed time with one another, there will be a plethora of live shows, trade displays, exhibits, pet parades, show bags, and entertainment for people of all ages to enjoy.
She said the ever-popular All Breeds Stud Heifer Show will be the central attraction on the Friday night.
"We usually have close to 70 heifers on display, and the leaders of the heifers are all under 25 so it's very much a youth orientated event. It always draws a strong crowd of onlookers and as it starts at 6pm the action looks quite spectacular under the showground lights.
Saturday morning will see the Stud Cattle competition get underway from 8am, with British, European and Tropical breeds to be judged across multiple classes.
"Last year we had more than 200 head entered in the competition, but considering the even worse climatic conditions we'll be very happy if we can get close to that many nominations this year."
Ms Saville said later on Saturday trotting will be making its triumphant return to the show from 2pm onwards.
"We think it'll be of great interest for older visitors as well as our younger guests who have never seen trotting in action before."
She said these events, as well as the All Breeds Dog Show, pavilion sections, junior cattle judging, Eljay Freestyle Entertainment motorbike show on Saturday night, and the pet parade and All Breeds Horse Show on Sunday, and more, will ensure a great time out for all.
