The Christmas shopping season may be over but Queensland's own Buy from the Bush campaign is taking things to a new level in 2020 with an outback roadtrip.
The initiative, aimed at getting people spending in rural communities, is set to hit the road in late February to share stories of rural businesses from across Queenlsland.
Cattle producer and maternity shop owner Kerri Brennan is the woman behind the Bush From the Bush QLD Facebook page.
In December Ms Brennan held events in Toowoomba and Goondiwindi to allow regional business owners to share their stories and give them even more exposure.
Now she's set to take that idea even further with a month-long road trip around the state, visiting towns including St George, Roma, Charleville, Tambo, Longreach, Winton, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Charters Towers, Emerald, Tannum Sands and Kingaroy.
A team of five will create video interviews with bush entrepreneurs and also give training on topics including social media, basic marketing and how to set up credit card payments for small businesses that previously operated on a cash basis.
To help facilitate the trip, Ms Brennan is now on the hunt for corporate sponsorship, as well as support from councils and local coordinators.
Ms Brennan said her focus had primarily been businesses set up by farmers as a way of earning off-farm income.
"Diversification used to mean a cattle producer who might have some cropping on the side," she said.
"These days diversification could mean someone who sells apricot jam or leathercraft, or jewellery or handbags.
"We're all about the highlighting the people behind the businesses and their stories."
Ms Brennan said it was important to make it easier for city shoppers to access bush businesses.
"Shopping local isn't really working any more because our locals are also broke," she said.
"We've got to target city customers who have the money to spend and want to do it online."
On her trip to Goondiwindi she also took time to interview shop owners to help promote them so no one missed out.
A Buy from the Bush Queensland online directory is currently being built to highlight rural businesses even further and beyond that Ms Brennan has further plans on how to bring the dollars to each town.
"The next stage of the plan is targeting tourism," she said.
