Numbers increased by 1151 head to 9074 at Dalby on Wednesday, the highest level for over a decade.
The vast majority were drawn from the usual local supply areas, with around 1000 head from far western Queensland. Around 2500 mixed quality cows were penned with increased numbers of plain condition classes included in the lineup, along with a relatively short supply of heavy grown steers and bullocks, and a large supply of young cattle.
The usual panel of buyers was present and operating very selectively on processor classes. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and received very little change in price.
Medium weight yearling steers to feed were also in large numbers and average prices eased, however good quality lines were in demand. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a dearer trend.
Light weight yearling heifers improved in price, however poor quality lines were cheaper. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export processor eased 18c to 20c/kg.
The supply of cows to processor exceeded demand and average prices reduced by 20c to 30c/kg and more in places, however poor condition classes to slaughter and restockers received strong demand.
