A SECOND Scenic Rim tourism icon is at risk with Mount Barney Lodge in the path of an inferno.
Rural fire brigades are fighting fires at Mount Barney, Spicers Gap, Palen Creek, Tregony, Tarome, Lower Beechmont and Mount Lindesay.
Mount Barney Lodge owner Innes Larkin said the fire was probably only two or three days away from his property, depending on the wind.
"We will watch and wait, the same as we have been doing for the past eight days," he said. "We are doing more work around the property to stop embers lighting around buildings, removing all the gardens and mulch next to the buildings.
"We will stay and fight if conditions are suitable and leave if the wind is high and fire is in the trees."
Yesterday a QFES spokesperson said the authority could not confirm if the Mount Barney fire had broken containment lines but Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen said it was not yet contained.
"QFES has put significant efforts into containment lines and significant resources into protecting the community," he said. "Across the region we are looking at a very high fire danger rating for the rest of the week.
"With changed weather conditions any one of these fires could become volatile and potentially mobile."
The Scenic Rim lost the Binna Burra Resort in September after a fire got out of control.
Cr Christensen said reports of people throwing cigarette butts out of car windows highlighted the importance of people doing nothing that could start a fire.
"Cigarette butts are an easy example but so is lawn mowing," he said.
"If anyone sees someone throw a lit cigarette, they should take down their registration number and report it to the police who will deal with it."
There was no end in sight for the dangerous conditions as the Bureau of Meteorology forecast temperatures in the mid-30s over the next week, with little chance of rain.
The region's main arterial road, the Mount Lindesay Highway, is closed south of Rathdowney and the Cunningham Highway closed from Lake Moogerah Road to the Fisher Park Truck Stop.
