A successful bull sale season has continued for Billa Park Simmentals, hitting a top of $10,000 twice at their central Queensland sale on Thursday.
Of the 34 bulls that made the trip from Dulacca to Clermont, 31 sold for a clearance rate of 91 per cent and an average of $5645.
The tone was set from the very first bull into the ring when Billa Park New Orleans N122 (P) drew top money.
Purchased by repeat clients the Finger family, Hillview Cattle Company, Clermont, the 25-month-old bull tipped the scales at 946 kilograms and measured 45 centimetres in scrotal circumference.
Sired by Billa Park High Impact H186, the polled bull boasted an eye muscle area of 137 square centimetres, intramuscular fat of 4.4 per cent, and rib and rump fat depths of 8mm and 10mm respectively.
Scott Finger said they were looking for a bull with plenty of length, depth and quietness.
"He's going over Brahman cows, breeding for the Jap Ox market and feeder heifers will be sold through the saleyards," he said.
Degulla Pastoral Company, Clermont, also paid top money, taking home Billa Park Nebraska N123 (S).
Also sired by Billa Park High Impact H186, the bull weighed 926kg, with a scrotal circumference of 40cm, EMA of 141sq cm, IMF of 4.1pc, and rib and rump fat depths of 9mm and 11mm respectively.
A second-top price of $8500 was also reached twice.
Volume buyers included Mulgrave Grazing Co, Gregory Station, Barcaldine, who purchased four bulls for a top price of $8500 and average of $6125, while Burnett Enterprises, Clermont, took home three bulls for a top of $7500 and average of $5500.
Billa Park co-principal Scott York said he was overwhelmed by such a positive result.
"CQ has always been a good area for us to sell bulls into," Mr York said.
"I didn't expect it to be as strong as it was. We had a lot of repeat clients so it's just great to see those guys come back year in, year out - you know your product must be doing the job for them so it's good to see that."
Hoch & Wilkinson auctioneer Jake Passfield said it was a very solid result.
"A lot of bulls going into the west of Clermont and up into the north, with a lot of buyer support from local buyers in the Clermont district."
The sale was conducted by Hoch & Wilkinson.
