Many family and friends were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Edna Joan Hindle (OAM) on October 3.
Mrs Hindle was very much part of the Theodore community until she retired from the family property Ventura Park to Toowoomba in 2005.
It was through her tireless contribution to the Theodore community she was recognised for her efforts and Mrs Hindle was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in May, 2014.
Mrs Hindle was born on June 7, 1927 in Goondiwindi and was raised by her parents Tom and Ann Glass on the land, before the family moved to Dalby to develop their building business.
She married Harry Hindle on September 16, 1950 and soon after they acquired their undeveloped Dawson River property, Ventura Park where they raised their four sons.
Together they set out to develop the well-regarded brigalow, belah, and softwood scrub property with limited machinery resources and endured many hardships.
In addition to farming Ventura Park with cereal and fodder crops, the couple developed a quality herd of Hereford cattle based on Devon Court genetics.
Other cattle breeds were later introduced over the years including Braford, Santa Gertrudis and Charolais.
Mrs Hindle become an astute cattle woman and loved her working horses, dogs and cattle.
They continued to develop Ventura Park with the creation of a large flood irrigation system sourced from the Dawson River and mainly produced fodder crops to fatten cattle.
It was during this time Mrs Hindle developed a very keen interest in being involved in voluntary community associations in the Theodore district.
She was actively involved as a member or office bearer of the Theodore Tennis Association, Callide Dawson Valley Veteran Tennis, Theodore Show and Rodeo Society, Theodore cricket, Theodore Racing Committee, Theodore Hospital Auxiliary, CWA and the Theodore Tourist Centre.
An avid sports follower, Mrs Hindle enjoyed a wide range of sports including tennis, cricket, rugby league, horse racing and campdrafting.
She also had a very keen interest in travel with several trips undertaken with her husband, family and friends in both Australia and overseas.
Mrs Hindle is very much missed by her family and friends.
She is remembered as being truly dedicated to her family with a huge generosity of spirit and a tremendous sense of community.
Mrs Hindle was farewelled at the TS Burstow Chapel, Toowoomba on Monday, October 14.
Mrs Hindle is survived by her four sons, Darryl, Lindsay, Shane and Craig and their families.
She was the much loved grandmother 'Nin' to Rohan, Ben, Jessie, Alexandra, Nicarle, Ryan and Holly, and a great-grandmother to her nine great grandchildren.
