Warwick agents yarded 1118 head of cattle on Tuesday, which was a reduction of 237. The yarding consisted of a good supply of young cattle, while cows dominated the grown cattle.
The yarding of young cattle consisted mainly of yearlings, along with a few pens of vealers and weaners. Quality was mixed with a few pens of well finished supplementary fed cattle, and several runs of well bred steers and heifers suitable for restockers and backgrounders, however there was a large percentage of plain conditioned cattle through the sale.
On the back of rain in some areas, restockers were active in the market which helped push prices up by 20c to 30c, with restocker weaner steers selling to a top of 285c, while restocker and background light yearling steers topped at 301c for a average of 270c/kg.
Feeder steers gained 3c selling to a top of 297c/kg. The few trade yearling steers sold up to 310c, while well finished trade heifers sold up to 297c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows, along with a few pens of grown steers and heifers. Strong competition from processors resulted in grown steers gaining 13c selling from 274c to 324c for the younger steers, while heifers sold up to 301c/kg.
A full field of processor buyers competed strongly on the cow market, resulting in price rises of 17c to 20c/kg, some sales more. Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 233c, while heavy cows sold to a top of 268c/kg.
