There were 725 head yarded at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. The market held up well, despite the continuing dry conditions. Cows were strong, store cows were dearer, feeders and weaners sold well and there was stronger competition for both steers and heifers in the younger cattle.
LJ and S Reinke, Mt Sylvia, sold quality Santa cows for $1500, Santa heifers for $1395-$1540 and milk tooth steers for $1390. Stephen Clark, Ingoldsby, sold a Charolais bull for $1800, a Brahman bull for $1700, milk tooth Brahman heifers for $1130, Brahman cows for $1150 and cows and calves for $960.
Watts Family Trust, Ropeley, sold Speckle Park steer calves for $1040, $850 and $765. Michael Cunnington, Grandchester, sold a Droughtmaster bull for $1260 and medium cows for $965. Rodney Steinhardt, Marburg, sold Droughtmaster heifers for $910. Col Gillam, Clarendon, sold a 20 month old Charolais bull for $1500.
Nev Stallin, Mt Tarampa, sold 18-month-old Droughtmaster steers for $1000. Peter and Lyn Vogler, Egypt, sold a Charbray bull for $1500 and medium Charbray cows for $1050-$1070. The Lehmann family, Coolana, sold Charolais cross calves, six months, with steers making $740 and heifers $530. Kevin Utz, Coominya, sold a Charolais bull for $1420, heifers for $945 and lines of Simmental heifer calves for $300.
James Sutton, Mulgowie, sold Charolais steers for $960 and a line of Euro steers for $810. Brayden Schulte, Hattonvale, sold milk tooth Droughtmaster steers for $1095. Patricia and Chris Hunkin, Summerholm, sold Brahman cross steers for $960. Chris Petersen, Larkhill, sold Brangus yearling steers for $915 and weaner steers for $720.
GC Pastoral Co., Peranga, sold a Charolais bull for $1470 and steers to $1120. Merv Swindells, Mt Whitestone, sold Charbray weaner steers for $790. Dane Robinson, Laidley, sold Charolais weaner steers for $785. Gary Stark, Forest Hill, sold a line of Murray Grey vealers for $650. Jeff Sinclair, Grandchester, sold Blonde cows and calves for $900-$1000 and steers for $1140.
