DAY two of the Droughtmaster National Sale at CQLX Gracemere proved just the red hot day one catalogue with 176 bulls selling for a $9188.
The day two session was down just $12/head on the day one average. Overall, 88 percent of the bulls offered over the two days were knocked down to buyers, delivering a $3.795 million gross for the 413 bulls sold.
Sale topper on day two was Mac and Gayle Shann's 21 month old Lamont Rebel (P), which sold for $45,000 to the Mylrea family, Rookwood, Gogango. Rebel boasted a 137 square centimetre eye muscle area, 12 and 9mm fat measurement, and a scrotal 42cm scrotal circumference.
The Shanns from Cantaur Park, Clermont, also sold the 21 month old Lamont Royal (S) (by Hamadra Express (P) for $32,500 to the Swan family, Swan Droughtmasters, Moura. The 814kg bull had 16 and 11mm fat measurements.
Second top price at $40,000 was the polled 24 month old Redskin Kung Fu (by Glenavon Quatro (P), which was offered by Morinish breeder Ken Rutherford and sold to Terry and Catherine Piggott, Aldinga Pastoral, Rolleston. The 848kg bull had a 136sq cm EMA and 412cm scrotal.
Donovan Cattle Company, Biloela, paid $36,000 for Bryvonlea Sebastion, a 26 month old polled bull by Vale View Ripper (P), offered by Brian and Yvonne Heck, Bryvonlea, Glastonbury.
Also in the money at $35,000 was Redskin Kensington (P), a 24 month old by Ridgie Didge Beersonme (P) with a 136sq cm EMA and 14 and 12mm fat measurements. Kensington went to Hewitt Cattle Company, Emerald.
Max and Robyn Kelso, Aitkenvale, bought the 908kg polled bull Oasis Director for $30,000. Offered by Noel and Robyn Geddes, Oasis, Wandal, the 23 month old Director had 13 and 9mm fat measurements and a 139sq cm EMA.
Also making $30,000 was Bryvonlea Tavish (P), which sold to Sedgeford Pastoral Company.
Drew and Jade Garside, Wetheron Droughtmasters, Wetheron, set the tone of the sale, paying $28,000 for the first bull offered on day two. Medway Bahram (P) was offered Donaldson family, Medway, Bogantungan, and had a 142sq cm EMA and a 41cm scrotal.
Simmons Cattle Company, Avon Downs, Charters Towers, ended up with 59 head from the two days.
Other volume included Blue Valley Cattle Company with 22, The Department of Agriculture with 18 for its Spyglass Beef Research Facility, and Nardoo Pastoral Company, Cloncurry, with 17.
