There were 444 head of cattle sold at Stariha Auctions Woodford cattle sale on Monday.
A good yarding of cattle saw strong competition from western and feedlot buyers for light and heavy feeders. Cows and bulls both remained firm. Rates for younger, plainer cattle were once again the most affected by the dry weather.
Sommer Brothers, Maleny, sold dairy cross cows for $1400-$1490. Kilcoy Butchery sold a line of 10-month-old Charolais cross heifers for $895. Peter Cuskelly, Stony Creek, sold a Droughtmaster bull for $1880. Anthony Bennett, Sandy Creek, sold Murray Grey steers for $930-$1080.
Betty Nunn, Mt Kilcoy, sold Droughtmaster heifers for $1120 and cows and calves for $1350. Collins Grazing, Anduramba, sold lines of Droughtmaster, Santa and Charbray vealer heifers for $580-$590. Emmert and Harris, Mt Archer, sold lines of Brangus, Charbray and Droughtmaster weaner steers for $750-$790 and Hereford cross heifers for $730.
J and E Tones, Kilcoy, sold Droughtmaster heifers for $790. Christine Rowe, Dayboro, sold Charolais heifers for $790. Lawrie Flynn, Mt Beppo, sold Droughtmaster steers for $840. Vern and Kim Duncan, Mt Mee, sold Charbray heifers for $790. Greg Nunn, Kilcoy, sold Brangus calves, with steers and heifers both selling for $500 and cows for $1090. Shawn McGinnis, Woombye, sold a Droughtmaster bull for $1420 and cows for $900.
