The supply of stock experienced a small increase to 852 head at Toowoomba on Monday, and there was a wide variation in quality across a number of classes.
Most of the usual buyers were in attendance and operating. Light weight drought affected young cattle received limited support. However a lift in the standard of the light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock improved average prices by 12c/kg.
Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market experienced quality related price changes, and this trend flowed onto the yearling heifer portion.
Prices for cows generally remained close to the previous week for the quality penned. Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 268.2c to average 228c, and a couple of heifer calves made to 212.2c/kg. The occasional vealer heifer to the trade made to 262.2c/kg.
Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 250c with a few reaching 268.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 259c with isolated sales to 295.2c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers to feed made to 228.2c with a fair sample averaging 204c, and poor quality lines averaged 147c/kg. The handful of medium weight yearling heifers to the trade made to 266.2c/kg.
A small sample of bullocks made to 322.2c to average 317c, with the occasional heavy heifer to 299.2c/kg.
Medium weight poor condition cows averaged 155c, and the 2 scores made to 198.2c to average 183c/kg. Good heavy cows averaged 224c with isolated sales to 238.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 252.2c/kg.
