Mareeba agents yarded 540 cattle at this week's prime and store cattle sale.

Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 540 head at this week's prime and store cattle sale.

Numbers decreased by 31 head on the previous week. The yarding consisted of 140 steers averaging 234c/kg selling to a top of 276c/kg, 115 bulls averaging 67c/kg selling to a top of 274c/kg, 161 cows averaging 163c/kg selling to a top of 230c/kg, 55 heifers averaging 145c/kg selling to a top of 213c/kg, 28 yearling heifers averaging 112c/kg to a top of 189.2c/kg and 41 yearling steers averaging 221c/kg to a top of 245c/kg.

Values for good well finished slaughter cattle improved slightly up 6-8c/kg for cows, 3c/kg for bullocks and 4c/kg for bulls. Medium weight feeder steers were firm to 6c cheaper. Yearling steers lost some value. Yearling heifers lost 30c/kg and are proving difficult to sell. Young quality store males lost 15c/kg in value. The usual panel of buyers and traders were in attendance.
