There were 714 head yarded at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. Despite the continuing dry weather, the market was stronger for all types. Once again southern, western and Downs buyers were prominent, with over 70 per cent of the yarding being purchased by processors, feedlots and backgrounders from out of the area.
John Campion, Foxleigh Station, Middlemount, sold lines of Simmental/Charbray steers, with weaner steers selling for $800-$885, light feeders for $900-$960, 24-month-old steers $1500 and bulls for $1470. Brian Jones, Middlemount, sold 24-month-old Simmental steers for $1195 and Brangus heifers, 10-12 months, for $870.
John Curtin, Mt Whitestone, sold a young Charbray bull for $1520. John Hudson, Ropeley, sold Santa and Euro cows for $1455. Geoff Schmidt, Grantham, sold milk tooth Charolais cross steers for $1200. Roger Hoffman, Carpendale, sold Charolais cows for $1135. Shane Brandley, Calvert, sold Droughtmaster cows to $1280.
