he market was stronger for all types at Laidley cattle sale on Thursday.

There were 714 head yarded at Stariha Auctions Laidley cattle sale on Thursday. Despite the continuing dry weather, the market was stronger for all types. Once again southern, western and Downs buyers were prominent, with over 70 per cent of the yarding being purchased by processors, feedlots and backgrounders from out of the area.

John Campion, Foxleigh Station, Middlemount, sold lines of Simmental/Charbray steers, with weaner steers selling for $800-$885, light feeders for $900-$960, 24-month-old steers $1500 and bulls for $1470. Brian Jones, Middlemount, sold 24-month-old Simmental steers for $1195 and Brangus heifers, 10-12 months, for $870.

John Curtin, Mt Whitestone, sold a young Charbray bull for $1520. John Hudson, Ropeley, sold Santa and Euro cows for $1455. Geoff Schmidt, Grantham, sold milk tooth Charolais cross steers for $1200. Roger Hoffman, Carpendale, sold Charolais cows for $1135. Shane Brandley, Calvert, sold Droughtmaster cows to $1280.

James Wright, Lockyer Waters, sold 20-month-old Droughtmaster heifers for $1240-$1295 and 15-month-old heifers for $925. Pat Ryan, Junction View, sold 16 to 18-month-old Santa steers for $1120. Davies and Green, Coominya, sold Hereford cows for $1285 and Charbray steers for $920.

Keith Slade, Laidley, sold Brangus heifers for $1200. Rolly Donohue, Clarendon, sold Brahman cross cows for $1045. Ray Barrett, Glamorganvale, sold yearling Droughtmaster heifers for $810-$920. Olivia Grazing, Kilcoy, sold a line of quality Limousin cross weaner heifers for $740. Hoger Brothers, Ropeley, sold 5-6 month old Charolais steer calves for $680. Jim King, Hattonvale, sold 12-14 month old Droughtmaster cross steers for $950.

Natalier Farms, Upper Tenthill, sold Euro calves, with steers making $590 and heifers $525. Shane and Nita Malone, Kobble Creek, sold a line of Charbray heifers for $720. Gary Stark, Forest Hill, sold a line of Greyman vealer heifers for $630. Cedric Zischke, Mt Tarama, sold Brahman weaner steers for $585.
