National Charbray sale catalogue is packed with premium genetics

Charbray Society of Australia president Les Marshall said 13 vendors will be showcasing their premium stud genetics at the 2019 sale.

"With this feast of heredities readily available, the opportunity will be there for buyers to select seed stock to suit their specific needs," Mr Marshall said.

He said with the dry weather continuing to bite harder and harder, the resilience of country people needs to be admired.

"Today's Charbray bred cattle also show great resilience with their ability to survive and produce in any climatic conditions that mother nature hands out."

Mr Marshall said Charbrays continue to demand premium prices in all aspects of the cattle industry, whether they be stores or fats.

"The big advantage for Charbray cattle is their ability to perform on grass or grain. This truly makes Charbrays a versatile asset to multiple breeding strategies."

He said, as a society, there is a firmly developed breeding plan in place that highlights genetically bred Charbray seed stock through their grading system.

"Society members and Certified Charbray Breeders have embraced this breeding plan to produce select sires.

"We're gradually convincing cattle producers that by using these select sires, they'll produce the premium article they're striving for.

"The biggest challenge for Certified Charbray Breeders is to supply the volume of these select animals that demand has created."

He said despite the dry weather conditions that were prevalent for the 2018 sale, the vendors presented an excellent draft which averaged a solid $5681, while reaching a high of $24,000.

All bulls selected for the sale will have an Australian Registered Cattle Vets Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation Certificate, and will be pre-treated for ticks. Scan sheets will be available on the day of the sale with EMA's, fat scans and weight data included.

Mr Marshall said a meet and greet will be held at Great Western Hotel on Stanley Street, Rockhampton, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm the night prior to the sale.

"During the night the eighth annual live Elite Charbray Heifer auction will be taking place with top genetics from a selection of the societies leading studs."
