It's all about the breeds at a Yeppoon butchery that is highlighting top quality Brangus and Charbray cuts.
For Yeppoon Central Meats owner Zen Kona, the focus on breeds began two years ago in conjunction with the Keppel Bay Sailing Club.
Both the butchery and the restaurant highlight Brangus cuts in August while in September it's all about Charbray, with each breed getting plenty of promotion as part of the deal.
The Keppel Bay Sailing Club dishes up breed-specific dinners and this year will also host a Fathers Day barbecue cook-off featuring both breeds, with chefs, butchers and producers set to go head to head to find the best local beef.
For both months Mr Kona has sourced meat from Nolans Meats, Gympie, with the Brangus selction coming from the Mount Larcom area, while the Charbray offerings come straight from the Charbray feedlot trial recently held at Waterfall Feedlot, Goomeri.
Mr Kona said he had enjoyed learning more about the carcase traits of each breed.
"It's good to be able to source quality local Queensland beef," he said.
"So many people are always coming in chasing local beef. We get a lot of southerners asking for it.
"It's a chance to educate our customers as well.
"Brangus goes well because a lot of people already know about Angus and the quality associated with that breed.
"Charbray probably isn't one of the well-known breeds, I've been educated by the Charbray Society and now I can share that knowledge with customers."
Mr Kona said it was great to have been able to follow the Charbray cattle through the feedlot trial process.
"I've seen all the photos from when they were sent to the feedlot and people can see what the cattle look like when they're choosing their meat," he said.
"It's exciting that we've actually been able to do this."
As for what's next, Mr Kona hasn't ruled out adding another feature breed to the calendar but doesn't yet have a contender in mind.
"I'm just happy to try to source any local, high quality product I can," he said.
