The seventh annual Coolabunia Classic Charolais Bull sale, held at Coolabunia on Thursday saw fierce competition for the top end bulls, topping at $11,500 three times, with a fourth bull reaching $11,000.
The sale achieved an 88 per cent clearance, selling 31 bulls from 36 offered to a solid but selective market.
The average was close to par with last year achieving a $5516 average against the 2018 average of $5540.
Bulls sold through the Brisbane Valley, Biggenden, Dalby and Charleville, with one stud sire selling to Holbrook NSW.
Tania, Len and Pat Haynes of River Run Charolais, had a red hot sale clearing all eight bulls for an average of $8250 including the top money of $11,500 three times.
Ms Haynes said they were happy with the overall result of the sale.
"Given the dry season we were very pleased by the sale result and the support from our buyers," she said.
"There were a lot of repeat buyers who came through the sale on the day.
Lot 21 River Run Nipper (P) sold to Erin Duncombe, Cooembardi, Brisbane Valley for $11,500.
Nipper had a weight of 1050kg at 24 months, EMA 150, fat 18/13, IMF% 5.2 and was homozygous polled.
Lot 22 River Run Notch (P) sold to Paul Clarkson Delcosta P/L Linville, for $11,500. Notch had a weight of 1005 kgs at 22 months, EMA 146, fat 11/8, IMF% 4.7. Notch was sired by Ascot Gunn.
Lot 24 River Run Nixon (P) sold to Brad Scott, Nanango for $11,500. Nixon had a weight of 945kg at 23 months. EMA 142, fat 12/12, IMF% 4.7. Nixon was sired by Ascot Gunn.
Graham and Katrina Blanch, Charnelle Charolais Gatton, cleared 16 bulls from 18 offered to average $4800 with a top of $11,000 for lot 12 Charnelle Ned (P), who will go on to do stud duties for Kenmere Charolais Holbrook, NSW owned by Matt and Ann-Marie Collins.
Ned was bought online through Elite Livestock Auctions, operating at the Coolabunia Classic Charolais Bull Sale for the first time.
Ned had a weight of 950 kg at 23 months, EMA 140, fat 12/8, IMF% 4.1 and was the first son of Canadian Champion CML Distinction to sell at auction in Australia.
Paul Clarkson, Delcosta P/L, Linville, emerged as the volume buyer for the sale taking home four bulls for a $7750 average including one of the top priced bulls and lot 26 River Run Nickel (P) for $8000 and two polled full French bulls from the Charnelle draft, lots 7 Charnelle Nate (P) for $7000 and lot 16 Charnelle NASA (P) for $4500.
Diamond L Charolais and Charbrays sold six bulls for a $4166 average, topping at $7000 for lot 3 Diamond L Playboy selling to DH and KL Watt.
