TRAINER Tony Gollan matched some of his better days at the races when Tokoriki Lad overpowered opponents in the Queensland Country Life Plate (1350m) at Doomben on August 10.

Ridden by senior jockey Jim Byrne, Tokoriki Lad ($3.90 faviourite) landed a string of reasonable bets when he arrived in the nick of time.

The result completed a winning quadrella for the Gollan stable after wins in earlier events with Just Orm (Robinson Neilsen Handicap 1050m), Unlikely Story (Gollan Racing Handicap 1200m) and Galtero (Munce Racing Handicap (1630m).

Regional trainers John Mazelmann (Mackay) and Tom Button (Rockhampton) upheld country pride when they won events through Calypso Bay and The Tax Accountant, respectively. Manzelmann scored the upset of the day in the TAB Open (2200m) when $81 outsider Calypso Bay won.
