Stud and commercial operators looking to strengthen and diversify their herds should consider attending the inaugural Roma Brahman and Queenslander Bull Sale being held on Wednesday, September 4 from 11am at the Roma Saleyards.
In total 52 bulls have been selected for the sale, with 37 Red Brahman registered sires and herd bulls being offered alongside 15 registered Queenslander sires.
Sale committee member and vendor Annabelle Wilson said the Queenslander contingent will be the first registered bulls from the breed offered in a multi-vendor sale arrangement within the Sunshine State.
"The Queenslander drafts being offered have drawn a lot of attention to the sale. The post-sale results will give us a good indication of whether we're progressing in the right direction with the breed," she said.
"The other main focus of the sale is to encourage beef producers in the region to get back into Brahmans."
"The Brahman and the Queenslander, with it's Red Brahman content, are both ideal for the climatic conditions many of us are currently contending with, and will continue to face in the future.
"We also have a problem with wild dogs in Queensland and the Brahman is naturally able to defend itself better against this threat.
"Another big benefit which both breeds offer is their hybrid vigour which provides first cross calves with the hardiness required to perform in our conditions."
She said with their lower Brahman content and pink noses the Queenslander provides a new alternative Bos Indicus option for northern Australia's cattle producers, which still provides substantial genetic diversity from the Brahman.
The breed has already found a good market at the Fitzroy Crossing Bull Sale in Western Australia.
Mrs Wilson said the draft will be available for inspection from the afternoon of Tuesday, September 3, and on the morning of the sale.
