The market for heavy cattle remain firm at Gympie on Monday while light conditioned weaners were hard to sell.

An increased yarding of 2028 cattle at Sullivan Livestock's Gympie cattle sale on Monday saw the market for heavy cattle remain firm while light conditioned weaners particularly heifers were hard to sell.

Cattle were drawn from Bundaberg, Aramara, Maryborough, Bauple, Woolooga, Kilkivan, Tansey, Kenilworth, Conondale, Maleny and all local areas.

Heavy Bazadaise cross steers from C and M Wyllie, Calico Creek, made 306c ($1442). Wilrose Pty Ltd, Netherby, sold Droughtmaster steers for 303c ($1444) and 300c ($1252), while their Angus cross steers made 304c ($1377). Droughtmaster cross steers from the Maher family, Pinbarren, made 308c to return $1309 and $1294.

Charolais cross steers from G and V Mitchell sold for 300c to return $1318. Charolais cross steers from the Heath family, Calgoa, made 299c or $1279 and $1201. Droughtmaster steers 12 - 14 months from Mick Norman, Coorumbulla, Glen Echo, made 279c ($960 and $863).

Droughtmaster weaner steers from the Blanckensee family, Kandanga, made 264c ($804) and 289c ($772). Charolais cross steers from S and J English, Glastonbury, made 269c ($775). Droughtmaster cross steers from Fitzgerald and Co, Kilkivan, made 253c ($684). Generally lines of weaner steers sold from 220c to 248c.

Charbray cross heifers from N and C Zahner, Bundaberg, made 258c or ($1153). Angus cross heifers from Wilrose Pty Ltd, Netherby, made 250c ($1064). Brangus heifers from Russell and Trish McIntosh, Widgee, made 245c ($896).

Quality Droughtmaster heifers from the Wheeler family, Kandanga, sold to a top of 260c to return $832. Charolais cross heifers from the Ferris family, Kin Kin, made 240c. Good conditioned vealer heifers sold from 170c to 205c, while plainer conditioned types sold from 120c to 162c.
