Northern NSW cattleman Todd Heyman of Heyman Droughtmasters, near Grafton, has been elected the new president of Droughtmaster Australia.
Mr Heyman and his wife Naomi run 60 Droughtmaster breeders on 80 hectares on Riverstone, while his parents Mark and Lynn are breeders on nearby Tara, near Copmanhurst, NSW.
Mr Heyman, who was an existing Droughtmaster board member, is looking forward to working with the fellow board members and take the breed forward.
"I will draw off the experience of these members and negotiate common ground in the board room and consult with membership on issues that matter," Mr Heyman said.
Other new board members elected include vice president Roger Underwood, national director Ken McKenzie and central zone representative Will Haviland. Sean Barrett representing the southern zone was also up for re-election and he retained his position.
Returning board members include national directors Doug Miles and Kevin Woolcock, far northern zone representative Jeff Williams, northern zone representative Jack Stewart-Moore, and western zone representative Clinton Gartrell.
Mr Heyman said it is really exciting to have cattlemen of this calibre on the board.
"I am really pleased Ken McKenzie as been appointed as a national director as it is great to have someone of his calibre to draw from," Mr Heyman said.
He said a recruitment and selection process to appoint a new general manager was underway and the appointment will be announced in the near future.
Vice- president Roger Underwood with his wife Jenny run the Eversleigh and Wallace Vale Droughtmaster Studs, at Pine Hills, Wallumbilla after relocating from Eversleigh near Hughenden.
Mr Underwood, who was re-elected to the board after a long absence, said the Droughtmaster breed has a strong future.
"I am really looking forward to playing a role and placing it in a stronger position in conjunction with membership,' Mr Underwood said.
Ken McKenzie and his wife Kerry of Yaralla Droughtmasters run 1600 Droughtmaster breeders on Pearl Creek, Duaringa, and live on their home block Yaralla at Blackwater.
Mr McKenzie said his role as a national director is to cover all zones and participate on various boards as required.
"The breed has been good to my family and I am willing to listen to members and give something back."
