Darling Downs' best beef competition coming up

TSBE Food Leaders Australia will on October 10 host The Darling Downs Beef Battle, an opportunity for the region's best beef brands to showcase their product to domestic buyers, the community and regional dignitaries - all while competing for the title of the Darling Downs Best Beef Brand.

The inaugural event sold out at the Spotted Cow leading to the event moving to Clifford Park Racecourse to fit more than 300 diners.

The audience will sample all beef brands in a blind taste test and score them.

This year the voting will occur using a QR Code and an app to simplify the process.

TSBE Food Leaders Australia general manager Bruce McConnel is excited about the event and the opportunities it provides for the region.

"We want to bring the region's top beef producers together to highlight the outstanding quality of beef we have in the Darling Downs," he said.

"It will also help develop stronger relationships between suppliers and the food and hospitality industry, both locally and across the state."

The brands already confirmed as competing are Mort & Co, Claytons Organic, Stockyard, John Dee Super Gold, and NH Foods Oakey.

"The event is essentially a blind-tasting competition where the audience will try each of the brands' striploin steaks and then judge who has the region's best," Mr McConnel said.

NH Foods Oakey took home the inaugural title and general manager Pat Gleeson said the team was "absolutely stoked with the win".

"It was a great way to promote products from the Darling Downs," he said.

The event will be held on October 10 at Clifford Park Racecourse from 5.30-9.30pm. Tickets can be bought at www.tsbe.com.au.
