A carefully selected draft of first-rate cattle drawn from three states will provide buyers with a distinctive range of options at the 14th annual ABCA-sponsored Roma Brangus Sale being held at the Roma Saleyards on Friday, September 6 from 10am.
ABCA president and chairman of the Roma Brangus Sale committee Mark Beckman said studs from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, including five first-time vendors, have chosen 124 bulls, 27 females and two semen packages (10 straws per package) for the 2019 catalogue.
Mr Beckman said, apart from a few exceptions, climatic conditions in the lead-up to the sale have been "pretty dire" from north to south.
"However, these conditions haven't impacted the quality of the cattle being offered at the sale. After their inspections the GDL and Elders sale agents have mentioned that the drafts looked uniformly, very good, sound and ready to go," he said.
"Cull bulls are selling for $2000 at present so it's a fairly cheap replacement cost to come to the sale and buy new bulls. There will be a great deal of potential for value buying on the day."
Mr Beckman believes the overall quality of this year's draft is equal to what has been offered in years past.
"We have a good number of females in the 2019 catalogue which provides a good indication that studs are wanting to pass on some high quality bloodlines to the prospective stud and commercial operators who'll be in attendance.
"The bulls selected are very much suited to the country in Roma and the surrounding area. There are noticeable more flatback bulls included in the draft this year."
Solid demand throughout the 2018 sale saw 93 bulls change hands for a $6817 average for a top of $22,000, while 34 females were sold to average $1948 with a top price of $4250 reached.
Mr Beckman said Brian and Jacinta Hartman, Valley View Brangus, Dungowan, NSW, will again be offering a charity lot in loving memory of their son Dean.
"All proceeds raised from the sale of the registered heifer in Lot 1, Valley View 840, will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, so we're hoping there will be plenty of spirited bidding on her."
He said a bull walk will be taking place at the saleyards from 4pm on Thursday, September 5, with light refreshments to be offered.
"All are invited to join with us for an informal gathering and dinner at The Club Hotel in Roma from 6pm, following the bull walk."
